Ram Mandir is a Hindu temple located in the city of Ayodhya in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The dispute over the Ram Mandir began in 1528 when the Mughal emperor Babur ordered the destruction of a pre-existing Hindu temple on the site and built a mosque, known as the Babri Masjid, in its place. Hindus believe that the site is the birthplace of Lord Rama and that a temple existed there before the mosque was built.

 

The controversy over the site led to numerous conflicts between Hindus and Muslims over the years, and the issue eventually went to the courts. In 2019, the Supreme Court of India issued a historic verdict, ruling that the site belonged to Hindus and should be used for the construction of a Ram temple.
